It seems we are going to have a bad mosquito season, moderate tick season and moderate flea season. We carry a new line of flea and tick products that also act as a mosquito repellent called Ovitrol X-Tend. It comes as either a spray or spot on application and is available for dogs only. This has more of what I consider a direct insecticide in it, etonfenprox, which is a mild, plant based insecticide. We started carrying it last year and it is proving to be safe and effective. I personally still like Frontline which works on fleas, ticks and lice but does not repel mosquitos. So it just depends on what your intended use is.
The main risk mosquitos carry is regarding heartworms, which do occur here up in the mountains but not very often. We still recommend using a heartworm preventative because they protect against intestinal worms which are very prevalent in Eagle County (we rank number one statewide....thought due to all the potting soil we use).
